My Background
Hello! My name is Beckett (they/them), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Qualified Supervisor in the state of Florida. Though I currently live in one of the larger metropolitan areas in Florida, my heart is still in the rolling hills of Kentucky. I grew up in a very small tobacco town in Central Kentucky, earned my BA in Psychology from Midway University in 2011, and earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Kentucky in 2014, completing field practice with PFLAG, Fayette County Public Schools, and inpatient psychiatric services for all ages. Following completion of my degrees, I continued work in inpatient psychiatric services and one-on-one school-based psychotherapy.
I feel most at-home working with adolescents and young adults - I enjoy nothing more than walking along with young people on their journey to achieve their goals, no matter how great or small those goals may be.
My Approach
My approach to therapy is to let you be the master of your own experience. I may have years of fancy schooling and some funky letters behind my name which indicate that I’m qualified to provide therapy services, but you are the one who knows your life best. It is not my place to tell you who you should be or what you should do, but to give you the space and support you need to explore your own thoughts, desires and goals, and work with you to figure out the path to achieving those goals, step by step.
I use an eclectic, conversational model which is tailored to the needs and preferences of my clients. I primarily focus on building distress tolerance and acceptance, challenging and restructuring negative thoughts and perspectives, and increasing mindfulness. Elements of practice include Cognitive Behavioral, Dialectical Behavioral, Reality-Based and Solution Focused therapeutic modalities.
Qualifications
I am licensed by the state of Florida as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with clear and active status to provide psychotherapy and assessment services. I am also board approved to provide Qualified Supervision to Registered Clinical Social Work Interns pursuant to licensure.
